Spiderhouse is my favorite coffeehouse esthetically. The owners built a
coffeehouse in a little house, leaving the walls intact, which gives a feeling of
intimacy. Photographs and painting for sale decorate the walls of most rooms,
but the main room is quaintly decorated with old photographs of nameless people,
and books whose binding have been torn. A coffee is a buck and refills are $.50,
but if you know you'll be there a while, you can order an "Endless Hummer" which
for $1.75 gives you unlimited refills for the whole night. Aside from the
regular coffeehouse fare, Spiderhouse offers you the chance to choose your own
shake ingredients for under $3.50. Outside, there is a porch which wraps around
half the building, and leads down to a patio area that is covered in random patio
furnishings with colorful umbrellas to block the sun's heat. The whole
atmosphere is quite pleasant, with statues of little angels hiding in the garden
and nostalgic antique Coca-Cola machines littering the view. Again, Spiderhouse
lacks a sufficient amount of outdoor light, thus not very conducive to studying
students, but nice for socializing.
